NafisaBotafogo’s Igor Jesus is poised to finalize a transfer to Nottingham Forest following the Club World Cup.
Earlier this month, the forward expressed his enthusiasm about joining Nottingham Forest, describing it as an ideal opportunity.
The 24-year-old is currently in the U.S. with the Brazilian side, getting ready for the Club World Cup. He has been discussing multiple subjects with journalists, including his upcoming switch to Nottingham Forest.
Globo Esporte shared his remarks, noting that the Brazilian international is ‘living his last days’ at Botafogo, as he will be moving to Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad after the current competition in America.
Jesus signed with Botafogo on a free deal last summer, following a four-year stint in the Middle East with Shabab Al Ahli Club. Since then, he has netted 15 goals and provided six assists in 55 appearances for the South American team.
The forward affirms he is prepared to transition to the Premier League.
“I think I have matured a lot here, not only as a person but as a player,” he said.
“In Saudi Arabia, the players had quality, but in Brazil the pace and level are different. This ends up making you improve your quality and your work even more.
“I leave here as a more experienced player. I’m sure it’ll help me a lot in Europe. If I had left here at 19, 20 years old, I think I would be nervous about playing in a league like the Premier League. Today, I’m prepared, and I’ll be happy. I have to do what I know, my best, like I do here at Botafogo.”
The Brazilian international received offers to switch teams during the winter transfer window but chose to remain with Botafogo. He elaborates on what influenced his decision to reject those advances earlier this year.
“I didn’t leave [at the start of the year] because I wanted to play in this competition [Club World Cup]. Today, I’m here body and soul. I’m sure I’ll do my best to help this club and my teammates in the best way possible. I feel the need to do so,” Jesus explained.
