NafisaBrentford manager Thomas Frank says it will be “impossible” to replace Bryan Mbeumo and that if he departs the club it will be for a significant fee.
After netting 20 goals and registering nine assists this term, Brentford boss Frank has addressed the possibility of losing winger Mbeumo this summer. The Dane made it clear the Bees will only allow the 25-year-old to move on if a substantial offer comes their way, as he is irreplaceable.
He told ViaPlay, via Tipsbladet: “It is clear that if he is to be sold, it must be for a nice, nice amount. It is a lot. Mucho. Really a lot. Then it is clear that it is impossible to replace him one for one. It cannot be done.
“There is a reason why he costs x number of million pounds, and we do not have x number of million pounds to buy for. I would say that I would be surprised if a lot of big clubs don’t look at him.
“I would be surprised with what he has to offer. How many wingers score 20 goals for a mid-table club? And then with seven assists plus his work ethic. And his character. All these things mean that he has a lot, so he is a good player.”
Mbeumo has been linked with a £50 million ($67.3m) switch to Manchester United, while Newcastle United and Liverpool have also been associated with interest.
Brentford possess one of the lowest wage structures in the Premier League and are far from the highest spenders, so they need to secure a major fee for the Cameroon international to reinvest into the team to preserve their top-flight standing.
Mbeumo, who cost Brentford just €6.5m from Troyes in 2019, will likely be a sought-after player during this summer window. His deal runs until 2026 so the Bees may look to cash in over the coming months, rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2026.
