Wolves finished 16th last season, their lowest position since promotion to the Premier League in 2018 – and Pereira will be eager to maintain the form he displayed earlier in the campaign, having won six matches consecutively from mid-March through to early May. But he’ll have to do that without Sarabia, who seems set to head back to Spain.
Report: Sarabia Set to Return to Sevilla
The report from La Colina de Nervion claims that Sevilla often prioritizes bringing back former players to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan – and this time is no exception, with Spanish star Sarabia being ‘sorely missed’ in Andalusia.
Sarabia experienced the peak moments of his career in southern Spain, having been registered with Real Madrid and Getafe earlier in his time in Spain – where a remarkable 2018/19 season saw the current Wolves player score 22 goals in just 52 appearances, leading to a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
He hasn’t had the best fortunes in recent years at Wolves, netting only eight goals in 66 appearances for the Molineux side in the Premier League, but his contributions over the last two seasons have only resulted in 34 starts and consequently, he is not a preferred player under Vitor Pereira.
Sarabia’s reported £90,000-per-week contract is due to expire soon, and Sevilla have been touted as his next destination as a return to familiar surroundings seems likely. The former Spain international has ‘said goodbye’ to Wolves, suggesting that his deal won’t be extended and at 33 years old, returning to his homeland appears the most suitable choice.
Players like Andre, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Hwang Hee-chan, and Goncalo Guedes all rank ahead of him in the hierarchy, and with Vitor Pereira expected to receive £62.5 million for Manchester United-bound Matheus Cunha, he may opt for similar types of profiles to Sarabia but at a younger age.
