Manchester City secured a substantial discount in their deal to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves compared to their initial inquiries, it has been disclosed.

The Algerian full-back became the first of four high-profile summer acquisitions to join Pep Guardiola’s squad with immediate effect, starting with participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Joining Ait-Nouri through the doors of the Etihad Stadium and onto the flight for the U.S.-based tournament are players such as Rayan Cherki from Olympique Lyonnais and Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan.

An extra signing was completed following the departure of third-choice goalkeeper Scott Carson, with Chelsea’s 33-year-old keeper Marcus Bettinelli brought in by Hugo Viana to fill the role left by the beloved Manchester City dressing room figure.

The efforts of Manchester City’s newly-appointed director of football seem to have saved the Etihad club a considerable amount in the transfer for Rayan Ait-Nouri from Molineux.

This comes from talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, who reports that Manchester City were initially quoted a fee as high as £50 million when they first explored signing Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri last summer.

The Algeria international’s Wolves contract was set to expire next summer, and while the club held an option to extend it by a year to preserve his value, the fee received this month from City has been distributed.

The report states that Wolves officials had to pay Ait-Nouri’s former club Angers £9.5 million, meaning they net only £26.5 million from the £36 million deal with Manchester City—including potential add-ons.

Rayan Ait-Nouri is anticipated to become Manchester City’s primary left-back for the foreseeable future once the competitive season kicks off, beginning with the FIFA Club World Cup group stage.

The 24-year-old’s integration into the first-team setup will also enable Josko Gvardiol to return to his natural center-back role, while Nico O’Reilly could see more opportunities further up the pitch in midfield.

Whether Manchester City pursue more business in the transfer window remains uncertain, though they are believed to hold strong interest in reinforcing at right-back, with Newcastle’s Tino Livramento their top target for the position.
