NafisaLawrence Shankland has been associated with a transfer to Rangers for what seems like an endless period.
Shankland, 29, didn’t have the most productive season in front of goal last time out, but he still managed to score a total of 68 times in 137 appearances for Hearts.
The Scotland centre-forward is now seeking a new team, and rumors have frequently pointed to him joining Rangers.
However, with West Brom and clubs in Saudi Arabia reportedly pursuing Shankland this summer, a move from Russell Martin’s squad could prove challenging.
Shankland likes Instagram post as Rangers complete £400,000 transfer:
It was originally reported back in 2020 that Rangers were eager to sign Shankland during his time at Dundee United.
He departed Tannadice in 2021 to join Beerschot in Belgium, where he spent one year before being recruited by Hearts on a three-year contract that has now lapsed.
Rangers can now take advantage of his contract expiring to sign him without a fee. However, Ibrox officials have already capitalized on the pre-contract market to secure Lyall Cameron after his Dundee contract expired.
Cameron’s transfer from Dens Park to Ibrox was officially announced on Tuesday (17 June) with the Govan club welcoming him on their Instagram account.
Shankland is searching for a new team but took a moment to respond to the post by liking it.
Jack Butland and former Light Blues stars Charlie Adam, Alan Hutton, and Glen Kamara also liked the post that revealed Cameron wearing the new 2025/26 home kit for the first time.
Rangers should still sign Shankland:
It is quite puzzling that Rangers never managed to sign Shankland.
Since first appearing on the Ibrox radar in 2020, the Glasgow-born striker has scored nine goals for Dundee United, eight for Beerschot, and 68 for Hearts.
Every Gers supporter and their dog are aware of the struggles and setbacks of Cyriel Dessers in front of goal, so it’s strange that when Alfredo Morelos lost form and eventually left Ibrox, there wasn’t a focused attempt to release Shankland from his contract at Tynecastle.
He will turn 30 in August, and while he had a less active season in front of goal, that was largely due to him being positioned in a different role at Hearts.
Still, he managed to score nine goals and provide 11 assists in 43 total appearances last term.
