The transfer speculation cycle will be gaining momentum in the upcoming weeks.
The 2025 summer transfer window officially opened on June 16, and Celtic already secured their first signing by re-acquiring Kieran Tierney.
That’s one essential addition to the defensive unit, as supporters are now eager to see what steps Brendan Rodgers will take next.
There has been considerable buzz surrounding Celtic’s centre-backs, whether it’s about potential new signings or players who might depart.
But Frank McAvennie has made it clear that one player needs to exit, given his current circumstances in Glasgow.
Maik Nawrocki’s relationship with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic

Whenever Maik Nawrocki has donned a Celtic jersey, he hasn’t appeared out of place, and that has been the sentiment among many fans.
McAvennie shares this view and believes the Poland star ‘hasn’t put a foot wrong’ whenever he has been given an opportunity by Rodgers.
Speaking on his Let Me Be Frank Podcast, McAvennie thinks ‘something isn’t right’ between Nawrocki and Rodgers, and he feels the centre-back should depart during the summer window.
“I feel really sorry for Nawrocki,” said McAvennie.
“He hasn’t put a foot wrong. Anytime he has been asked to come in, he came in, and even when he played without Carter-Vickers and Scales was there, I thought he did really well.
“I don’t know. Brendan, obviously, something isn’t right, because I look at the boy and I think, ‘he deserves a run’. Time will tell. We will see.
“If you aren’t playing boys like that, then I would like to say, ‘go’.”
Nawrocki’s minutes for Celtic since joining in 2023:
Nawrocki must be doing something significantly amiss in training for Rodgers to rarely utilize him, and at times, not even include him on the bench.
Remember, Celtic invested nearly £5 million in this player during the summer Rodgers returned to the club, so another question that needs to be raised is who actually advocated for this transfer?
Because his playing time suggests it wasn’t the manager in the Celtic Park dugout.
Club | Games | Minutes played | Starts | Goals conceded | Clean Sheets |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Celtic | 18 | 1,081 | 12 | 16 | 6 |
Regardless of Nawrocki’s situation, Celtic need to recruit another centre-back because Liam Scales and Auston Trusty aren’t exactly excelling.
