Chelsea are poised to announce the signing of 22-year-old striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town after he completed his medical today.

Delap, who netted 12 goals in 37 Premier League appearances last season despite Ipswich’s relegation, chose Chelsea over interest from Manchester United, Newcastle, and Everton.

His decision was influenced by the opportunity to reunite with manager Enzo Maresca, under whom he previously worked at Manchester City’s academy.

Chelsea intend to include Delap in their squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which commences in two weeks. The club has requested that he forgo participation in the England Under-21 European Championship to join the team in the United States.

As part of the negotiations, Ipswich Town have shown interest in taking Chelsea’s young striker Marc Guiu on loan. While this potential move is not directly linked to Delap’s transfer, the positive relationship between the two clubs could facilitate the deal.

Delap’s addition is expected to bolster Chelsea’s attacking options, providing competition for Nicolas Jackson and aligning with Maresca’s tactical vision. His physical presence and goal-scoring prowess are seen as valuable assets for the team’s ambitions in the upcoming season.
