Celtic are reportedly nearing an agreement to sign Benjamin Nygren. The Scottish Champions have conducted positive talks with FC Nordsjaelland.

According to journalist Mark Hendry, Celtic are optimistic about finalizing a £2m deal with negotiations advancing smoothly.

The attacking midfielder can play as a winger on either side and is out of contract in January, meaning he is available for a discounted deal this summer. After 20 goal involvements for the Danish club, Nygren is drawing attention from Europe with Celtic keen to secure the player now.

Nygren scored 15 goals and registered four assists for Danish side Nordsjælland this campaign and he certainly seems to have all the attributes to be a top Celtic player.

Nygren has won four caps for Sweden since making his International debut in March and has scored two goals, continuing his impressive ascent.

Nygren, who stands at 6ft 2 inches, is comfortable operating across the front three, but clips show him to be more of a number ten and he possesses a superb left foot and goal threat which makes him a player to be admired.

Remind you of someone? Yes he sort of resembles Matt O’Riley in terms of ability and we haven’t fully replaced him since he left for Brighton last summer.

Nygren could be that individual, and with his contract expiring at the end of 2025, Celtic could acquire him for as little as £2 million. Let’s hope this is one we can get over the line, quickly.

Celtic have been associated with moves for Sarpsborg’s Sondre Orjasaeter and Royal Antwerp’s Michel-Ange Balikwisha as the club aims to reinforce their squad before the start of the season.

Celtic have already confirmed Kieran Tierney on a five-year deal and are anticipated to sign both Ross Doohan and Callum Osmond. The Welsh attacker will cost a compensation fee while the goalkeeper returns to the club as a free agent.
