Celtic have enjoyed an excellent campaign.

Although the frustration of missing out on the Scottish Cup and a domestic treble lingers, a league and cup double along with Champions League advancement marks a strong return under manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Celtic boss has now secured four pieces of silverware from six possible in his opening two seasons since returning to the helm, providing supporters with plenty of cherished moments.

However, Chris Sutton has assessed Rodgers’ season on a scale of ten and, in doing so, took a jab at Robbie Savage’s coaching credentials with a familiar dig that Hoops supporters will instantly recognise.

Celtic supporters have often heard the tired argument that managing to win the Scottish Premiership is straightforward given the club’s financial advantage.

This time, however, Sutton flipped the narrative and fired back at Robbie Savage with the very same dismissal Celtic fans have long grown weary of.

Sutton told BBC 606, “Oh, Celtic. Nine out of ten. Progressed in the Champions League.

“Really progressed in the Champions League. And another double, Rob. So nine. What about Macclesfield?”

Savage: “Ten.”

Sutton: “You’re not a ten, you’ve bought the league, Rob. I mean, anybody could have done what you did this season at Mac. I’ll give Mac a five. Okay, well done for going up.

Savage: “Macclesfield fans broke every record going in the history of the Northern Premier League.”

This isn’t the first occasion Sutton has ridiculed Savage. The BBC analyst previously hit back after Savage made dismissive remarks about Celtic icon James Forrest, claiming he should be finding the net every season at Parkhead.

Sutton also pushed back against Savage’s criticism of Celtic’s performances in Europe when the Macclesfield manager derided the 2003 UEFA Cup team’s accomplishments.

And following Savage’s strange suggestion that Rangers were the in-form side heading into the season’s climax, Sutton pointed directly to the points gap at the summit of the league table to dismantle his claim.

It seems Savage never quite gets the message, does he?
