NafisaWolves have sanctioned several high-value departures over the past couple of seasons to assist them in staying within the profit and sustainability regulations (PSR).
The West Midlands outfit were thought to be nearing the PSR threshold for the 2023-24 fiscal year, with Premier League teams only allowed to incur £105million in losses across a three-year cycle.
The departures of Matheus Nunes, Ruben Neves, and Nathan Collins in the summer of 2023 helped them remain compliant and avoid a possible infraction.
Wolves changed their accounting cut-off from 31 May to 30 June earlier this year, creating the opportunity to offload a player before submitting their accounts for 2024-25.
Manchester United have now finalised an agreement to acquire Matheus Cunha after triggering the £62.5million release clause in his deal.
The transfer is anticipated to be finalised once the 26-year-old returns from national team duties with Brazil later this month.
Former Manchester City finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively informed Football Insider that Wolves will face no PSR complications for 2024-25 following Cunha’s sale.
The attacker recorded 17 goals and six assists in 36 outings during the most recent season.
Vitor Pereira’s men finished 16th in the Premier League standings, one spot below Manchester United.
Wolves PSR position clarified after transfer agreed:
Borson claimed Wolves were likely falling slightly short on PSR prior to confirming Cunha’s exit.
He told Football Insider: “I think it all lines up, doesn’t it?
“I doubt they were very far short on PSR, but I suspect they were a little bit short because otherwise you probably wouldn’t move the accounting deadline and you’d just keep the profit from Cunha in next year for 2025-26.
“Now what they’re doing because they moved it to 30 June, I think it looks very clear that the deal is going to happen in their 2024-25 accounting year.
“It’s hard to think that that’s not about PSR. I think moving that date is a strong indicator, to be honest.
“We will sort of know because we’ll be able to model it out.
“Either way, the key point is that they have no issue with PSR.”
Wolves player in line for major Galatasaray departure proposal:
Regarding another possible exit at Molineux, Football Insider reported on 29 May that Galatasaray are making efforts to recruit Nelson Semedo on a free deal this summer.
Wolves are understood to have tabled a fresh contract offer to the 31-year-old right-back, whose current agreement ends on 30 June.
Nevertheless, Galatasaray can provide the Portugal international with Champions League action after securing the Super Lig title.
Semedo, who was made Wolves captain in December, notched five assists in 38 games during the past season.
