According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur have ‘decided to sack’ head coach Ange Postecoglou and there is a ‘leading’ candidate lined up to succeed him.

Postecoglou’s fate has seemingly been sealed for months, with suggestions he would be dismissed even if Spurs triumphed in the Europa League.

Despite guiding Tottenham to their first major trophy in 17 years with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final—securing Champions League qualification and a significant financial boost—Postecoglou has found himself under heavy criticism following a dismal Premier League campaign that saw Spurs finish 17th.

Although an injury crisis played a role, many of the team’s performances were below standard, and they also failed to impress in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Still, the European success hasn’t spared the Australian tactician. According to Football Insider, Tottenham have ‘decided to sack’ the former Celtic manager.

The report states this decision had been postponed due to Daniel Levy being ‘out of the country for weeks’, but the club is now actively moving forward in appointing a new boss and is expected to confirm Postecoglou’s departure in the coming days.

Three names are reportedly under consideration to take the reins.

The report continues:

‘Tottenham are believed to have already made some progress in sounding out potential replacements for Postecoglou once his sacking is confirmed, Football Insider has been told.

‘Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Fulham’s Marco Silva and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola all have admirers in the Spurs boardroom, with proven Premier League calibre and the ability to develop players among the most desired attributes for candidates.’

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has also echoed these claims, stating that the club are preparing to part ways with Postecoglou and that Thomas Frank is now the ‘leading’ contender.

He posted: “Told Tottenham decided to sack Ange Postecoglou. Thomas Frank is leading the race to substitute him.
Marco Silva (Fulham FC) also on the list… Wait and see.”
