NafisaNico Raskin’s disallowed goal for Rangers against Hibs should have been reviewed and awarded by VAR… according to the MAJORITY of the KMI panel.
Raskin and his Rangers colleagues were left furious after the Belgian appeared to bundle the ball over the line at Easter Road before Rocky Bushiri cleared it away.
Hibs then countered and levelled the score through Kieron Bowie.
Everyone in blue anticipated referee Nick Walsh to initiate a VAR check and confirm that Raskin had found the net to make it 2-0 for the away side and disallow the Hibees’ equaliser.
But the review never materialised, and Bowie’s goal was allowed to remain.
SFA clarification stated that there was no definitive footage or camera angle that clearly confirmed the ball had fully crossed the line, despite replays seemingly showing it well over.
Rangers later questioned VAR’s reliability following the match, issuing a statement that said: “Incidents like this again bring into question the effectiveness of VAR and also highlight the need to introduce goal-line technology in Scottish football.”
Now the independent KMI panel has assessed the episode, with one of the five panelists insisting the officials acted appropriately.
The report stated: “The panel discussed this decision at length with the majority (4:1) deeming the on-field decision incorrect.
“The majority (4:1) believed that VAR should have intervened and recommended a factual award of the goal.
“One member of the panel highlighted that they didn’t think there was conclusive evidence and a VAR intervention should not take place.”
