OFFICIAL – The Athletic confirms Deal has been Agreed as Nottingham Forest have officially triggered clause in Premier League star’s contract that will see him wearing the famous Red and White Forest Jersey next season’

Ola Aina’s stellar performances have drawn interest from multiple clubs, but fortunately for Nottingham Forest, it appears they may retain their key player.

The Nigerian has been a vital component of Nuno Espirito Santo’s team this season, with Aina earning widespread acclaim for his efforts at full-back.

However, with only months remaining on his Forest contract, there were concerns that the 28-year-old might depart the City Ground this summer.

Potentially available as a free agent, Liverpool have been mentioned as a possible destination for Aina as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold. That transfer, however, now seems improbable following Forest’s recent move.

Forest were bracing for bids for Aina ahead of the summer, but it now appears the City Ground side have resolved the issue.

According to Paul Taylor from The Athletic, Forest have triggered a one-year extension in Aina’s contract, thanks to a clause included in the deal, which could be activated if Forest avoided relegation.

Yet, despite securing the full-back for another year, Forest are reportedly eager to go further and lock Aina into a longer-term contract to ward off any potential interest from other clubs.

Forest still need full-back reinforcements:

Forest will undoubtedly be thrilled that they have extended the Nigerian’s tenure at the club; however, they still require additional support in the full-back position.

Aina’s recent injury has highlighted significant gaps in Espirito Santo’s squad, with young player Zac Abbott stepping in against Man City due to limited options.

Nottingham Forest’s senior full-backs (Age)
Neco Williams 24
Ola Aina 28
Harry Toffolo 29
Alex Moreno (loan) 31
With only four senior full-backs currently at the club, Alex Moreno’s likely return to Aston Villa means Forest will be left with just three heading into next season.

Forest’s interest in Daniel Svensson suggests the club acknowledges the potential problem, but whether they can address it remains an open question.
