Rangers will now look to appoint a new permanent manager, with Philippe Clement their previous hire before Ferguson, and one candidate appears to be in focus.
Real Madrid assistant Davide Ancelotti has been strongly associated with the vacancy, and there’s now a fresh development in that pursuit.

Spanish outlet Marca (18 May) have now stated that Ferguson’s exit has brought Ancelotti “closer” to Rangers.
Reactions to the Ancelotti links have been mixed, but whatever the outcome, clarity is expected shortly.

There is some doubt surrounding Ancelotti’s potential arrival at Rangers, mainly due to his limited background as a head coach despite his wealth of experience as an assistant.
Nevertheless, the Italian is widely respected, having worked at several elite clubs, and has taken a more direct role in daily operations than his father.
Ancelotti’s stature in the football world could also help him attract promising young players from Real Madrid to Ibrox, and with other sides reportedly keen on him, securing his signature would be a significant win.
The 35-year-old will need support in the transfer window, but appointing a new manager promptly will offer the best foundation for a successful start at Rangers.
The hire would undoubtedly be a risk, but one the Rangers faithful will hope proves worthwhile as they target their first league title since 2021.
