MEGA NEWS —England born manager REJECTS other Jobs after Rangers talks, 49ers Ready Appointment of New Boss

Rangers’ incoming proprietors, the 49ers Enterprises, are already facing pressure to appoint a new long-term manager at Ibrox.

Although there were indications that interim boss Barry Ferguson might be handed the permanent position, his departure has now been confirmed.

Attention has now shifted firmly to the incoming backers, with an announcement potentially just days away.

As Rangers search for a new head coach, numerous names have been linked with the role.

According to The Scottish Sun (19 May), however, only two contenders remain in the frame: Russell Martin and Steven Gerrard.

The outlet reports that discussions are currently ongoing and a verdict could be reached before the weekend, giving Rangers much-needed clarity.

Martin is believed to have been in contact with the 49ers for a while now and, importantly, has declined other positions, implying he could be waiting for this opening.

Gerrard is also being considered for a return to Ibrox, and final talks are expected this week with Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell.

Time is running short, though, and a resolution is anticipated soon.

Rangers and Martin might be a strong pairing
After enduring a tough spell with Southampton in the Premier League, Martin is aiming to rebuild his name and prove his credentials, so his objectives at Ibrox would likely be ambitious.

Southampton: 2023–2024

The reason the 39-year-old found it difficult in England’s top division stemmed from his commitment to a possession-heavy style, and that sort of tactical boldness in a manager is something the 49ers are said to admire.

Furthermore, Martin has demonstrated a knack for nurturing young players, which is something the Light Blues must prioritise if they aim to build a sustainable system in Glasgow.

If the ex-Southampton manager has rejected other opportunities, it likely indicates he believes this is the ideal challenge—and that may be more appealing than revisiting the past with Gerrard.
