Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Craig Moore has outlined what he believes is a flaw in the Rangers squad that needs improvement to close the gap.
Craig Moore criticizes Rangers’ mentality after Old Firm draw:
When host Rob McLean asked about Rangers’ ability to rise to the occasion for Old Firm derbies but falter almost weekly elsewhere, Moore said:
“Yeah, and again, those other kind of matches where Rangers have consistently this season, you know, got trapped, not being good enough, drop points. That’s why we’re seeing the gap, you know?
“We touch on the big matches as a group of players that seem to be able to find a way for those big matches, but just having the mentality, Rob, to be able to do that in the so-called smaller matches.
“Maybe the mindset’s not right and hasn’t been right for not only this season. You can still look at probably a little bit deeper than that from this group of players. And that’s something that needs to be improved upon for next season and obviously try to finish the season as positive as they possibly can as well, because certainly every player’s career is on the line at the football club.”
How can Rangers address the mentality issue?
Moore is correct; the players’ performance against Celtic shouldn’t be the sole measure.
Facing other teams in the league is almost a distinct challenge, and Rangers have lost the intimidating presence they once commanded.
Every opponent, regardless of their league standing, is now taking their shot.
New signings will be essential to give the next manager a fighting chance, with an emphasis on players who bring speed and flair, but they must also have the right character.
Playing for Rangers demands more than just skill; there have been too many moments of inattention and fundamental mistakes throughout the season.
