NafisaCeltic have received a lift in their chase of reported target Kalidou Sidibe, with the Guingamp midfielder’s coach under no false impressions about the likelihood of the player departing this summer.
The Hoops aim to strengthen from a position of advantage in the summer transfer window, with the Champions League qualification play-off for next season approaching quickly.
Attacking reinforcements will be a priority, with speculation around Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden and Slovakian forward David Strelec – both of whom were on Celtic’s radar in January – refusing to fade.
But sources in France have linked the title holders with 26-year-old Sidibe in recent months, who stands at an imposing 6ft 7in tall.
The Paris-born footballer is entering the final year of his deal with the Ligue 1 outfit, who reportedly value him at roughly £1.7million.
And Guingamp boss Sylvain Ripoll concedes he’s aware the towering midfielder could be tempted by a switch if the right proposal comes along.
Asked by Le Telegramme about the chances of Sidibe and young talent Hugo Picard staying at the club beyond the summer, Ripoll responded: “I’d hope so, but I’m not fooled either.
“They probably want to see what’s going on there.
“They only have one year left on their contracts.
“As long as their interests are protected, the club will listen.
“So there must be the requests the players want and the club must be protected.
“But if they stay with us, I would be very happy.”
