NafisaMotherwell boss Michael Wimmer has suggested that Scottish midfielder Lennon Miller is on the verge of departing the club. He didn’t specify Miller’s next destination, but many are optimistic that Celtic could be his upcoming stop.
Miller played an important part in Motherwell’s 3-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Fir Park last night, registering an assist before being taken off late in the match.
Celtic have been repeatedly linked with a transfer, and as Miller exited the pitch, he was met with a standing ovation from the home fans — a sign that strongly implied it could have been his farewell outing in claret and amber at Fir Park.
He said: (BBC Sportscene), “For me, only one sentence about Lennon, we always talk about football and we always talk about technique and tactic and, but we often forget the character and the human side and then if you are 18 years old and you have this pressure from the media to this club, this club, this club, get an invitation for the National A team so and you stay humble, you be on the ground, this is the most important.
“So he’s a brilliant guy and he, I don’t know, I wish him all the best and hopefully he make a great career.”
The midfielder’s reliable displays this campaign have made him one of the most in-demand young prospects in the Scottish Premiership.
His calmness in possession, energy, and strategic understanding make him a natural match for a club like Celtic, who have already shown a commitment to nurturing youthful midfield prospects, signing Arne Engels last summer for what was then a club-record transfer.
Engels, only 20 when he arrived, has integrated well into the team, and the potential arrival of Miller would further strengthen Celtic’s long-term vision in midfield.
With Callum McGregor now 31 and Reo Hatate consistently associated with a possible exit, securing Miller would represent a long-range investment alongside Engels — injecting more youth into the engine room and enhancing overall depth.
Miller is just 18 but has even worn the captain’s armband for Motherwell at times this season, tallying 8 goals and 5 assists in 31 league matches for the side currently in eighth. He appears poised to progress to the next stage in his development, with a move to the Hoops now looking increasingly likely.
