STEVEN GERRARD is currently the frontrunner to be appointed the next Rangers boss.

But although speculation swirls that he’s been in Scotland to finalise the move, he appears to be on the opposite side of the globe.

SunSport exclusively reported earlier this week that Gerrard was among the leading candidates for the position, alongside Russell Martin.

According to sources in Spain, Real Madrid assistant Davide Ancelotti is still under consideration too.

However, numerous indications suggest that Gerrard is ahead in the race.

Some bookmakers briefly HALTED wagers on Gerrard taking charge at Rangers for a second time earlier this week.

Then, former Liverpool colleague Djibril Cisse revealed that Gerrard had withdrawn from a legends match next week due to ‘professional reasons.’

Since betting markets reopened, the Anfield icon has remained the clear favourite for the position.

Amid all the speculation, rumours have spread widely on social media and fan message boards that Gerrard is PRESENT in Scotland.

That, however, appears to be inaccurate.

Gerrard has been based in Bahrain since taking on the Al-Ettifaq role in Saudi Arabia at the beginning of 2023.

He has continued to reside in the neighbouring nation since being relieved of his duties earlier this year.

And that seems to be where he currently is.

Gerrard recently shared an Instagram story from the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel in Bahrain.

Apparently recorded by Gerrard himself, the footage captures the picturesque backdrop of Bahrain Bay in Manama.

Gerrard and his family have settled in Manama, the capital city, over the past couple of years.

The former Liverpool and England skipper previously managed Rangers between 2018 and 2021.

He wasted little time making his mark in Europe by guiding the club back to the group stages of continental competition.

The pinnacle of his tenure came with Rangers’ Scottish Premiership title triumph in 2021.

It was a championship they were under huge pressure to secure, with bitter rivals Celtic aiming for an unprecedented 10-in-a-row.

Just half a year after clinching the silverware, Gerrard departed to take the reins at Aston Villa.

However, he was dismissed in under a year, with his latest managerial stint coming in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Ettifaq.
