“Good Luck for the Future” —Leicester City  waves Goodbye to another Unwise, Poor and Expensive Signing, He has left the club alongside Jamie Vardy

If you are unaware, Leicester City Football Club parted ways with a number of players on Tuesday, May 27. Announcements regarding other departures also emerged. A total of 11 members of City’s squad have already left following the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign. We will outline those individuals below.

In the meantime, one of the now ex-LCFC players is reportedly set to join a new club even at this early stage. We will shed more light on that situation later. However, this article focuses on one of the Foxes’ other recently released players.

Already former Foxes:

To begin with, the following players make up the list of those who have departed: Daniel Iversen, Danny Ward and Jamie Vardy. Also leaving are the so-called young pros: Ben Grist, Oliver Ewing, Deniche Hill, Liam McAlinney, Harvey Godsmark-Ford, Arjan Raikhy, Brad Young and Joe Wormleighton.

Naturally, it’s especially emotional to bid farewell to Vardy. While Ward is unlikely to be remembered with the same affection, despite some memorable penalty stops.

Iversen, on the other hand, never quite fulfilled expectations at Filbert Way. Even so, Preston North End were keen to acquire the former Denmark Under-21 goalkeeper. He will sign for the northern English side on June 1.

Leicester City part with another poor and costly addition:

So Iversen has found a new home with the Lilywhites, but what about his former teammate and fellow released Fox, Danny Ward? There are currently no reports suggesting Ward has secured a move elsewhere. Both arguably should have departed LCFC much earlier.

In addition, it must be noted that the contrast in Leicester’s transfer dealings over the past ten years is striking. There are success stories such as Kasper Schmeichel, Jamie Vardy, N’golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez—each signed for relatively low fees.

Then there are the flops. And, frankly, City have made more missteps in the transfer market than they have pulled off good buys. Alarmingly, Ward cost £12.5 million. £13m was spent on Filip Benkovic. £15.8m went towards Vestergaard. Though I’d argue the £28m paid for Islam Slimani tops the list.
