EXCL —Nottingham Forest have now made FINAL DECISION on £29.5m Done Deal for Premier League midfielder with an extra creative spark that Nuno Santo lacks in his squad in the absence of Morgan Gibbs-White

While Nottingham Forest do have funds to invest in the summer, Evangelos Marinakis won’t be hurried into deals that don’t offer good value.

It has already been confirmed that, regardless of which European competition they qualify for, Forest will invest significant money in the summer, but only on the right players.

Nuno Espírito Santo will be eagerly searching for a striker to strengthen his Forest squad, with Liam Delap’s relegation release clause certainly appealing.

The cost must be appropriate for any signing, though, and one linked player from a Premier League club has a price tag that Marinakis isn’t particularly enthusiastic about.

Forest are considering Andreas Pereira from Fulham as an additional creative option in midfield, possibly drawn to the Brazilian because his contract is entering its final year.

However, it doesn’t appear Fulham are factoring this in, as a report from RTI Esporte in Brazil claims Forest have been discouraged by their Premier League rivals’ demands.

The report originates from Brazilian club Flamengo’s interest in Pereira and states: “Fulham have set a price of 35 million euros to release the player. Andreas Pereira has a contract with the English club until June 2026.

“[…] José Boto, Flamengo’s sporting director, has information that Nottingham Forest and Olympique de Marseille, clubs that are better off financially than Rubro-Negro, also do not intend to spend this amount on the player.”

It seems unlikely Flamengo would be prepared to pay £29.5m for Pereira either, but they may still be his most probable destination given his affection for the club.

In their search for an attacking midfielder, Forest have been linked with Mateus Fernandes of Southampton as well as Pereira, and the Saints player may well be the more probable choice.

Pereira spent a year on loan at Flamengo during the 2021/22 season and immediately fell for the club, so much so that he admitted he did not want to leave.

In a farewell Instagram post, Pereira wrote: “I love Flamengo. And no one can change that, or take it away from me.

“I want to thank Marcos Braz, Bruno Spindel and everyone who worked hard to make sure I could live this unforgettable experience. I know they fought until the end so I could stay.

“Today, we are parting ways as athletes. But I join this entire nation, and I know that it will always be with me, supporting me until I return to the home I chose to love.”

It appears then, even if Fulham lower Pereira’s price, it will be challenging to convince him not to return to his cherished Flamengo.
