NafisaRangers were once again failed by the officials as they stumbled to a 2-2 draw against Hibernian to conclude their Scottish Premiership campaign.
Cyriel Dessers and Nicolas Raskin found the net, with Kieran Bowie and Martin Boyle responding at the other end to wrap up a dramatic season at Easter Road.
The main flashpoint came in the opening half, as Raskin seemed to push the ball over the line, with images supporting that, but VAR claimed there was no conclusive proof to award the goal, and Hibs quickly scored at the other end.
John Brown didn’t hold back in accusing corruption live on Rangers TV, and although Tom Miller attempted to defuse the situation, repercussions may now follow.
Scottish FA expected to act against Rangers:
Keith Hackett believes the Scottish FA will likely respond, with human error being an unfortunate part of football, and no justification for such remarks.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the former FIFA referee acknowledged that making such statements was ill-advised and should lead to disciplinary measures.
“That is a very poor comment,” Hackett said.
“All stakeholders in the game can make mistakes. The manager selects the wrong team. The club selects the wrong manager. A player misses an open goal. The referee makes an error.
“Human beings do make errors.
“Using the word ‘Corrupt’ is frankly very unwise, and I do expect the Scottish FA to take action.”
Willie Collum facing a hectic week:
As much as Collum is regularly criticised by supporters across Scotland, even he must be bewildered by the standard of officiating being delivered consistently.
Hackett urged Collum to champion the introduction of goal-line technology in the Scottish Premiership, with mistakes like Saturday’s likely to persist in its absence.
With poor camera views and referees not up to standard, something is seriously amiss.
Raskin has let his performances do the talking in a standout season, but he was clearly frustrated with what appeared to be another legitimate goal denied.
Patrick Stewart will not be pleased with the stack of issues piling up on his desk – from UEFA sanctions to potential fallout from the Scottish FA since his appointment.
It’s simply not acceptable, and while criticism of decisions is warranted, there’s a proper way to express it, as seen in the official statement released by Rangers.
