NafisaPaul Dickov has dismissed speculation linking Kyogo Furuhashi with a return to Celtic Park this summer, just months after the striker’s £10 million switch to Rennes in January.
Despite a swift exit from Celtic, reports have continued suggesting that the Japanese attacker could be set for a bargain return — possibly for as little as a quarter of the amount the Hoops received.
Celtic have already welcomed Jota back in January, and Kieran Tierney is poised to rejoin the squad in the upcoming transfer window following a rocky stint away. However, Dickov remains doubtful that a third reunion is on the horizon.
He said: (10bet), “I don’t think they can bring back too many players. They’ve already done it this season.
“They’re bringing Tierney back as we mentioned. Kyogo, I’m slightly surprised that Celtic sold him at the time when they did. But would he come back? I don’t know.
“It’s difficult for that to happen. They’ve already had a couple of players doing that already.
“If you have another one to come and do it, I would say it would be very unlikely.”
Kyogo’s return would certainly split opinion, considering all he accomplished in three and a half years, including 85 goals in 165 appearances.
However, his recent form at Rennes and the fact he is now 30 might count against him. That said, if it’s a significantly reduced-fee deal, it could be very appealing to Celtic and Brendan Rodgers.
The Japanese striker was reportedly angling for a move away during the first half of the campaign behind closed doors, making a return only half a year later appear even more improbable.
For now, Celtic’s attention remains on reinforcing the squad ahead of the next season, but it seems Kyogo’s name can be scratched off the list of feasible signings — at least in Dickov’s view.
