“Celtic got helped by the Referee and Were Rangers really CHEATED at their own Backyard?” SFA Willie Collum explains key decision that went Celtic’s way vs Rangers at Ibrox that got Rangers fans ENRAGED and calling match official Nick Walsh and VAR ‘Corrupt’

The SFA’s chief of officiating, Willie Collum, has shared his thoughts on Adam Idah’s goal for Celtic against Rangers at Ibrox that was initially disallowed.

The Irish forward believed he had drawn the game level in the second half, only for the assistant referee to raise his flag as Idah began to celebrate.

Following a discussion with VAR, however, a factual correction was advised, and Brendan Rodgers’ side were awarded the equaliser.

At first, the offside call was made due to Daizen Maeda’s run beyond the Rangers defence. The Japanese attacker was also later reviewed for potentially interfering with Liam Kelly’s sightline.

It was determined there was no foul play, and the goal stood.

“It’s the correct decision for us in the end,” said Collum on the SFA’s VAR review programme.

“The first offside is what the assistant referee is penalising. He thinks the Celtic player positioned out wide is offside. That is not accurate.

“There’s an appropriate delay [of the flag] to let the passage of play reach its conclusion.

“A goal is then scored. Afterwards, they give the initial offside out wide. The VAR quickly reviews it and determines it’s onside.

“I want to highlight again that we’d ideally want these decisions to be accurate on the pitch, but that’s the purpose of VAR.

“Then there’s clear on-field communication from the referee who notes there could be a second offside. I believe it’s the Rangers keeper who also appeals for that. VAR is then given the chance to review it.

“You can see they rightly conclude that there is no obstruction to the line of vision.

“This is a factual correction, so there’s no requirement for the referee to check the monitor.

“We’re very satisfied with that.”
