BREAKING —Steven Gerrard picks first Rangers signing: Liverpool legend heading to Ibrox

Steven Gerrard is anticipated to be appointed as the next Rangers boss and is already laying out his plans for the upcoming summer transfer period.

Gerrard understands that a significant rebuild of the squad at Ibrox is necessary if he is to mount a serious challenge to Celtic’s stranglehold on Scottish football once again, and the former England captain is poised to tempt a Liverpool great to join the Light Blues.

Jordan Henderson may potentially reunite with his former Anfield colleague at Rangers, according to the Liverpool Echo, which highlights that the midfielder’s future at Ajax is highly uncertain following the exit of head coach Francesco Farioli.

Henderson even cast doubt on his own future at the club when speaking after the 2-0 triumph over FC Twente on the final day of the Eredivisie campaign.

“It depends on which direction the club wants to go. They have to make tough decisions,” he is quoted as saying by FCUpdate.

During the January transfer window, Henderson was a target for Monaco but a move was turned down. Now it seems he could be heading for the Ajax exit door, despite still having a year remaining on his contract.

Henderson has previously voiced his deep respect for Gerrard as a footballer on numerous occasions and may begin his own path into coaching under the guidance of the former Liverpool icon.

“I’d have to say Steven Gerrard has been my biggest influence in my career so far… I watched him when I was younger and then to go and play and train with him every day was massive for me,” he said back in 2014.

When Gerrard hung up his boots two years later, Henderson said: “I’m so incredibly lucky to have played with him, learnt from him and most importantly got to know him as a person… To have had the opportunity to get to know him and see how he conducts himself on and off the pitch has been priceless for me.”

Now Gerrard and Henderson could be about to link up again at Rangers.
