Leicester City’s campaign was “more than just a bad season,” according to Ricardo Pereira, who emphasized that the players who fell short have no excuses.

The club’s relegation was sealed on Sunday with a loss to title-bound Liverpool, with over a month remaining in the Premier League season.

Players have begun addressing the debacle on social media, and Ricardo was blunt about the extent of City’s failures.

The right-back, who made his first start in five months during Sunday’s match, posted on Instagram: “When you go down with five games to go, it’s more than just a bad season. It’s a very difficult moment — but we have to face it. The truth is: we failed.

“Several things went wrong this season, as individuals and as a club, we have to take responsibility.

“There were moments where we didn’t show enough. Moments where we should’ve done more. In this league, there’s no mercy if you’re not at your best.

“Now, there’s only one thing left to do: focus on the present, finish the season the right way, and make the most of what’s left. There’s no hiding.”

Conor Coady, a key member of the squad’s leadership group alongside Ricardo, admitted that Leicester had fallen short of the required standard from the outset.

“Yesterday was a day I’ve never wanted to experience but the reality is as a team and as a club we haven’t been good enough from the very first minute of the season,” the former England defender shared on social media.

“This league is unforgiving when you are not at the level and we’ve felt that first hand, what matters now is putting the club in the best place possible for what is a huge summer and one thing is for sure is that you fans will drag the club through it like you have done before.”

Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen was the first to break his silence, grappling with relegation in his debut Premier League season.

“One of the toughest days in my career,” he said on Sunday night. “It has been such a difficult season for all of us, so I just wanted to thank all of you for standing by our sides, every single game. It has not been easy for anyone.

“Now we have the last few games and we will as always give everything for the club.”
