NafisaFormer Manchester United forward and interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has pressed his current club Leicester City to resolve his future swiftly.
After assuming the role of manager at the Foxes mere weeks following his exit from United in November, it has been a challenging period for the Dutchman. Leicester’s drop from the Premier League was sealed last week after a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool.
This sparked considerable uncertainty about Van Nistelrooy’s tenure at the King Power Stadium. Sky Sports reported this week that there are doubts about the manager continuing with Leicester past the season, with the club already compiling a list of possible successors.
Leicester’s dismal campaign persisted on Saturday as they were thoroughly outplayed by Wolves at Molineux. The team suffered a 3-0 loss, with United target Matheus Cunha finding the net.
Speaking in a post-match interview when questioned about discussions regarding his role at the club, Van Nistelrooy told Sky Sports “I’m still waiting.
He added: “I said in the press conference last week leading into the Wolves game that I spoke with the board and the chairman but already for months, I’ve taken the initiative to do so, to explain how things are going, so they are aware of the situation, how I think and how I see things. Now it’s a matter of the alignment that I always speak about and it’s a matter of being patient and waiting.”
When asked if he truly wants to stay, he said: “Internally, the club know where I stand and where I see the future of this football club, so yes, I see a future. But the most important thing is to be on the same page of course.”
The Dutchman also told TalkSPORT that he is “hoping for the interests of the club” that a decision about his future is made “the sooner the better.”
Leicester are back in action next weekend when they welcome bottom-placed Southampton to the King Power Stadium.
