NafisaManchester City forward Erling Haaland has expressed his sentiments regarding Leeds United’s return to the top flight.
Leeds clinched promotion to the Premier League on Easter Monday, dominating Stoke City with a 6-0 victory. Joel Piroe scored four times, while Junior Firpo and Wilfried Gnonto also contributed to the tally.
This triumph was followed by Sheffield United’s loss to Burnley. Daniel Farke’s team leads the Championship standings with 94 points and could set a new club record of 100 points by winning their final two matches.
Leeds later posted an image of Farke alongside the first-team squad, captioned: “We are Premier League.”
Haaland, born in Leeds during his father Alf-Inge Haaland’s tenure at Elland Road, joined the festivities on social media. Responding to Leeds’ post, the striker shared two clap emojis and a praying emoji.
Haaland has previously affirmed his lifelong allegiance to his father’s former teams. Alf-Inge played for Leeds from 1997 to 2000.
“Erling always looked back on that time and his dad was there. Erling mentioned Leeds a lot. He has his shirt and everything from Leeds,” former Whites midfielder Eirik Bakke previously told Leeds Live. “That was the club he followed in England in the beginning and I think he still does.
“Things have happened and he’s gone on to other things, but Leeds will always be a part of his heart. When you are born there, that’s the case. With Alfie, it’s been there for a while.
“Sometimes, it’s difficult now to mention too much about other clubs, but I think that will still be the case. Early on, he was proud to be born in Leeds and, also, that his dad played there. He’s following Leeds and the results every week.”
However, soon after Erling’s birth, his father moved to Manchester City for £2.5million. Tragically, his career was effectively halted during his three-year stint at the club due to a severe tackle by Manchester United captain Roy Keane.
