Nottingham Forest Faces Key Contract Decisions as Summer Nears – With the transfer window approaching, Nottingham Forest must act fast to secure futures for several players. While recent contract extensions signaled intent, looming expirations and potential exits demand urgent attention.

Nottingham Forest may have had a quiet January transfer window, but securing new contracts for two key players was a crucial move for the club.

Rather than making a flurry of signings, the Reds’ only addition was young defender Tyler Bindon, who was immediately loaned back to Reading. However, tying down striker Chris Wood and center-back Murillo to new deals signals the club’s intent for the future.

Wood, who was set to become a free agent this summer, has now committed to Forest until 2027. Meanwhile, Murillo—previously under contract until 2028—has extended his stay until 2029.

Wayne Hennessey

Beyond Bindon’s signing, re-signing back-up goalkeeper Hennessey on a short-term deal was Forest’s only other move in January.

The experienced Welshman remains a respected figure in the squad, providing valuable leadership. If he stays beyond this season, a transition into a coaching role seems the most likely outcome.

Ola Aina

An automatic one-year extension is expected to be activated on Aina’s contract, currently set to expire this summer. Talks have also been held over a longer extension.

Nuno Espírito Santo has expressed confidence in reaching an agreement, and Aina has made it clear he wants to stay. However, negotiations have dragged on, and Forest will want to finalize things as soon as possible.

Harry Toffolo

During his three years at the club, Toffolo has been a fan favorite both on and off the pitch, proving himself a reliable performer and a model professional.

This season, however, he has struggled for game time, and left-back is an area Forest will reassess in the summer. A departure seems the most probable outcome, though he would leave with best wishes.

Willy Boly

Forest have the option to extend Boly’s contract by another year, but speculation about a move to Saudi Arabia persists. The defender has been linked with Al Riyadh, managed by former Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi.

For now, Boly’s experience will be vital as Forest push for European qualification, but a summer exit wouldn’t be surprising.

Alex Moreno

Earlier in the season, making Moreno’s loan move from Aston Villa permanent seemed an easy decision. He was a regular in the starting lineup and performing well.

However, his situation has changed in recent months, with Neco Williams overtaking him in the pecking order. While Forest hold an option to sign him permanently, doubts have emerged, especially with reports linking him back to Real Betis.

Jonathan Panzo

Since joining Forest in January 2022, Panzo has struggled to make an impact, managing just one senior appearance while spending much of his time out on loan.

Currently with Rio Ave—another club owned by Evangelos Marinakis—his progress has been hindered by injuries and limited game time. At 24, he needs regular football, and a move away in the summer would be the best outcome for both parties.
