Wolves Eye Zakaria Aboukhlal to Strengthen Pereira’s Attack

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly targeting Toulouse winger Zakaria Aboukhlal as Vitor Pereira seeks to bolster his attacking options this January. According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, the Premier League strugglers are keen to secure the versatile Moroccan international to aid their survival bid.

Having already made moves in the French market with the £16.6 million signing of Ivorian defender Emmanuel Agbadou from Stade Reims, Wolves appear set to continue their Ligue 1 shopping spree. Pereira’s side currently sit 17th in the Premier League, hovering above the relegation zone on goal difference. A 3-0 drubbing at home to Nottingham Forest served as a stark reminder of the challenges ahead.

Why Wolves Want Aboukhlal

Matheus Cunha has shone on the left flank for Wolves but has shouldered much of the attacking responsibility. Aboukhlal, a 24-year-old winger with 22 caps for Morocco, could alleviate some of that burden. Known for his clinical finishing and intelligent movement, the Netherlands-born forward has been a standout performer for Toulouse this season, contributing six goals and two assists in 16 Ligue 1 appearances.

Aboukhlal’s ability to operate across the frontline adds to his appeal, though he primarily thrives as a right-winger. His stock rose significantly during Morocco’s historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, where he showcased his flair and work rate.

Aboukhlal’s Season So Far (Ligue 1 2024-25)

Appearances: 16

Goals: 6

Expected Goals (xG): 8.27

Assists: 2

Successful Dribbles: 0.6 per game (31%)

Ground Duels Won: 2.3 per game (36%)

With Pablo Sarabia being the only recognized right-winger in the squad and rarely utilized, Aboukhlal would provide Pereira with much-needed depth and quality in attack.

Toulouse’s Stance

Aboukhlal has a year left on his contract, and Toulouse may consider cashing in to secure maximum value. While he was linked with Southampton before the 2022 World Cup, he remained in Ligue 1. Wolves now hope to lure him to Molineux as they fight to secure their Premier League status.
