NafisaTottenham Hotspur reportedly had the chance to sign Jørgen Strand Larsen before he joined Wolves, Tottenham News has learned.
Larsen, who struck a dramatic late equaliser in Wolves’ 2-2 draw against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (29 December), has only increased the scrutiny on Ange Postecoglou. The Tottenham manager is said to be under mounting pressure but is expected to receive backing in the January transfer window [Football London, 30 December].
The Norwegian forward joined Wolves on loan from Celta Vigo in the summer. The deal is set to become permanent until 2029 for £23 million if certain performance-related clauses are met [BBC Sport, 2 July 2024]. Since his Premier League debut, Larsen has managed seven goals and two assists in 19 appearances, a commendable tally given Wolves’ inconsistent form this season.
However, it has now come to light that Tottenham could have signed Larsen had they acted on the opportunity.
According to a recruitment insider with ties to Spurs, the North London club were offered the 24-year-old striker but decided against pursuing him. “His finish against Spurs was fantastic,” the source remarked, highlighting the impact Larsen has had since arriving at Molineux. Wolves’ Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha has also been in excellent form and has reportedly attracted interest from Spurs [TBR Football, 25 November].
Tottenham may now regret snubbing Larsen, especially as the striker’s availability was also flagged to West Ham, Manchester United, and Crystal Palace, none of whom made a move. Wolves capitalised, and Larsen’s performances have justified their decision.
Meanwhile, Tottenham could consider selling Son Heung-min in January to raise funds, a potential shake-up as Postecoglou looks to steady the ship.
