NafisaWest Ham United majority shareholder David Sullivan has already ruled out hiring Graham Potter as a potential replacement for manager Julen Lopetegui, amid speculation over the Spaniard’s future in east London.
After a disappointing 0-0 draw with Everton, pressure is mounting on Lopetegui. The match had been promoted by some as a must-win for the Hammers’ manager, and the dull stalemate against Sean Dyche’s relegation-threatened side has only intensified discussions about his tenure.
Lopetegui’s tactics and insistence on fielding struggling players like Guido Rodriguez and Carlos Soler have raised concerns, with West Ham declining in 14th place, having secured just three league wins all season.
While no final decision has been made, West Ham are reportedly assessing managerial options.
Potential candidates linked with the role include former Porto boss Sergio Conceicao, ex-Dortmund manager Edin Terzic, Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, former Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand, and former Benfica manager Roger Schmidt.Arsenal legend Martin Keown has questioned Lopetegui’s grip on the squad.
“It’s like Lopetegui has lost the players a little bit; he is shouting from the sidelines but some of his players are walking around,” Keown said (via The Mirror).
“It looks a stroll in the park for Everton at the moment and that is a real worry for West Ham.”Despite his success with Brighton, Potter was deemed too “risky” for West Ham by Sullivan.
Pep Guardiola once described Potter as “the best” English manager, with Adam Lallana also hailing him as “world-class” during their time together at Brighton.
