Lopetegui Identifies Priority January Signing for West Ham – If He Remains in Charge

Under mounting pressure at West Ham, Julen Lopetegui has already identified his ideal January signing to spark a turnaround.

One of the big questions right now is why Lopetegui’s preferred style isn’t coming through on the pitch.

Many argue it’s down to the squad lacking players with the right skill set to apply his vision. This issue is especially evident with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who’s often been caught out of position after joining attacks, leaving gaps on the right side of defence.

While the former Man United right-back performs defensively, his limitations going forward have frequently obstructed West Ham.

Simply put, he’s better suited to a traditional back four, whereas Lopetegui’s system requires attacking wing-backs.

On the two occasions Lopetegui has tested this setup so far this season, West Ham suffered 3-0 defeats, underlining the tactical mismatch.

Given these challenges, it’s no surprise that Lopetegui has reportedly marked Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey as a top January transfer target.

Lamptey, who possesses the attacking skills required for Lopetegui’s style, could be the solution West Ham need on the right flank.

As reported by Caught Offside, the Brighton star’s offensive flair and ability to track back make him an ideal candidate for Lopetegui’s preferred wing-back role, potentially addressing one of the team’s key tactical weaknesses.
