NafisaLeeds United center back Joe Rodon has eased fears over a serious head injury he sustained during Wales’ Nations League draw with Turkey in Kayseri last night.
The Leeds United centre-back was caught in a terrible clash of heads with his teammate Mark Harris in the first half, leaving both players grounded and requiring immediate treatment for several minutes.
Despite the worrying nature of the collision, both players were able to continue after the medical staffs intervene.
Harris emerged with a painful black eye, while Rodon, a key player for Leeds, returned to the pitch sporting a headband to protect his head from bleeding.
Rodon, who had been booked earlier in the match, spoke to Sgorio after the game and joked about the incident: “To be fair, I’m used to it in the Championship, it’s every other week if I’m honest.
It is what it is, a mix-up, but we’re both okay and that’s the main thing.” he quoted On a positive note for Leeds United, goalkeeper Karl Darlow, who was filling in as Wales’ second-choice shot-stopper, received widespread praise for his performance.
Darlow kept a clean sheet as Wales extended their unbeaten run under head coach Craig Bellamy so far.Leeds United Daniel James replaced Harris at half-time, with Charlie Crew missing out on the matchday squad altogether.
Head coach Bellamy expressed his satisfaction with the result, particularly after Turkey’s Kerem Akturkoglu missed an 89th-minute penalty by striking the post.
The miss denied Turkey the chance to top Group B4 of the UEFA Nations League, leaving Wales in second place, two points behind the Turkish side and two ahead of Iceland, who secured a 2-0 win over Montenegro. The final round of fixtures will take place on Tuesday.
