NafisaHarry Redknapp has provoked controversy once again with his comments on West Ham United’s summer recruitment.
Despite West Ham’s mixed transfer window, which saw both questionable moves and some exciting additions, Redknapp seems to be on the offensive.
While Julen Lopetegui has struggled to fit new signings into a integrated system, Redknapp has pointed fingers elsewhere.
The former Hammers manager, who not too long ago warned fans to “be careful what you wish for” before David Moyes’s departure, is now shifting his stance entirely.
On talkSPORT (November 11th, 8:54 am), Redknapp seemed to lay the blame openly on the recruitment team. “The recruitment and the good players, obviously, at the moment are not performing – it’s very difficult and the manager cops the blame,” he said.
He questioned the decision-makers: “Who brings the players in if they’re not good enough?”Redknapp’s criticism targets Tim Steidten, the head of recruitment, claiming that “one or two of them are not good enough – they’ve not recruited well, West Ham. That’s their big problem.”
The irony is remarkable. Just three months ago, in August, Redknapp was praising West Ham’s transfer strategy, calling it “good business” and tipping them for a solid season.
It seems Redknapp’s opinions are as changeable as ever. For West Ham fans, his advice may be best taken with a grain of salt.
