NafisaSteve Cooper has been criticised by Leicester City fans and former players for his approach following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Manchester United just before the international break.
The Foxes’ heavy loss at Old Trafford saw fans voicing frustration, with loud boos heard from the away section and chants of “Cooper, sort it out!” resounding through the stadium.
Cooper’s side has collected only 10 points from their first 11 Premier League games, leaving them in 15th place, just three points above the relegation zone.
Their next match will be at home against Chelsea and former manager Enzo Maresca on Saturday, November 23.
Former Leicester City player Matt Piper criticised Cooper’s tactics and decisions during the match, calling it a “particularly poor performance” on BBC Radio Leicester’s When You’re Smiling podcast.
“(Steve Cooper said) he never felt like a goal was coming. If you don’t feel there is a goal coming and you’re 2-0 down and you don’t make your first substitute until the 70th minute – that’s what I don’t understand.”
Cooper eventually brought on Bilal El Khannouss, who had scored against United in the Carabao Cup, as well as Kasey McAteer and Odsonne Edouard.
Piper noted, “I know a lot of fans are already to the point where they want him gone, but he doesn’t help himself… he didn’t do anything about it.”
In response to the fans’ reaction, Cooper commented: “It’s a 3-0 defeat and you’re not going to get cheered off whether you’re here at Old Trafford or anywhere else.
